Aldo Bertera (1937 - 2013) started working at his father's Texaco gas station at the age of 13. Along with his brother Robert, they helped run the gas station and used car operation. He graduated from West Springfield High School in 1955, and then from the General Motors institute in Flint, Mich., in 1957. After graduating it became Aldo's dream to own a Chevrolet dealership.
In 1973, Aldo and Robert brought the then-new Subaru brand to West Springfield, grafting the first Bertera showroom onto the Texaco station. Outgrowing the space, they built a new Subaru dealership on Riverdale Street, in West Springfield. They expanded the company first in 1982 with the now defunct Lincoln/Mercury dealership, then again in 1987 with the Dodge store in Westfield, MA. They continued to grow the business from there.
Aldo's dream of owning a Chevrolet dealership was finally realized in 1997 with the purchase of Riggs Chevrolet in Palmer, MA. Under the leadership of Brian Yarrows, Bertera Chevrolet flourished and became a place of great pride for Aldo. He would always make time to visit with customers and employees alike, intent on making sure everyone was completely satisfied.
It was Aldo's determination, intelligence, and commitment to the community that grew the Bertera Company to what it is today. There are currently nine dealerships and two Collision Centers throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut representing Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Ram, Truck, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Subaru.
We are proud to carry on Aldo's legacy providing Chevrolet's Award winning line-up of vehicles with his standards of superior customer service.
